A piece carved for you.
Commission a totem pole, mask, panel or painting, designed in conversation with you and carved by hand in Tsax̱is (Fort Rupert).
Jason Henry HuntIn his words
"My main focus as an artist has been to take what I've been taught and bend it to my own style and tastes. I've always experimented with colour and design elements, while keeping an elegant flow to my work."
What Jason takes on
Commission work spans the full range of his practice: totem poles, large scale panels, masks and paintings. Every piece is designed and carved by Jason himself, in the hand-tool tradition his family has carried since Mungo Martin.

Design conversation
Design is iterative and Jason does not settle early. For the PEETZ fishing-reel maker's artist-series reel he worked through seven designs before one fit. Colour, scale and composition are talked through with you before any cedar is cut.

Carving
In Jason's words: "Custom work will have a timeline attached depending on scale and availability of wood." He works primarily with hand tools and finishes with the knife rather than sandpaper, so every surface carries the cut. For a moon mask with an orca design, Waddington's records him carving the whole piece from a single block: no gluing, no add-ons.
